Frequently asked questions · Wedding photographer

What you are wondering, before you decide.

Here I have gathered answers to what I am asked most often, from booking and travel to delivery, albums and the shoot itself. If you cannot find the answer, just send me a message.

How early should we book a wedding photographer?

It's wise to book a wedding photographer as early as possible, ideally 6 to 12 months before the wedding date, especially if the wedding is in high season (May to September). Popular dates fill up quickly, so the earlier the better!

How do we book you?

Fill in the contact form under the "contact" tab. Then I'll see whether I'm available and get in touch with you for a cup of coffee or a video call! If it feels right between us, we sign a contract together. Easy peasy lemon squeezy! :-) You can also send me an email at marte.bjorgum@gmail.com or call me on 99704803.

Do you offer a trial session or a pre-shoot before the wedding?

Yes, I offer a pre-shoot (often called an engagement session), which is a lovely way for us to get to know each other, and for you to get comfortable in front of the camera. It can also make you more relaxed on the wedding day. The session plus many lovely pictures of the two of you are included in the price. For other types of photography, we usually meet for the first time at the session itself (unless we've had a coffee together first, that is!).

What kind of equipment do you use?

I use professional camera and lighting equipment to ensure high-quality images whatever the conditions. I always bring backup cameras and lenses to be prepared for anything. I have two camera bodies: a Canon R6, and I mostly use the 85 mm, 70-200 mm, 35 mm and 24-70 mm lenses.

What happens if you fall ill on the wedding day?

I always have a contingency plan. If something should happen, I have a network of professional photographers I can contact, and whom I trust to cover your day.

Do we get all the photos you take?

On a typical wedding day I take many thousands of images, and I don't think it would be practical to own that many photos. I select the 400 to 700 best images and edit them in Lightroom.

Do you offer albums and prints?

Yes, I do! It has become more and more important to me that my couples are left with something physical in their hands after they've married. An album they can smell, leaf through, feel and, not least, show off to everyone who visits. It will always be "the real deal", which is the best :-) In most of my wedding packages a physical album of 20 x 20 cm is included in the price, with 10 double spreads. You can also order wall art - that is, physical prints with a frame to hang on the wall - in my web shop, Svalefoto. This applies to all types of photography.

Do you offer a second shooter (an extra photographer)?

Yes, it can be a good idea to have an extra photographer if you'd like broader coverage, especially if the wedding is large or you want pictures from several places at once (for example when both the bride and groom are getting ready). There is a small extra cost for this.

Do you offer videography in addition to photography?

I focus only on photography, but I'm happy to recommend some skilled videographers I've worked with before. If it's very important to you, I can make a very simple clip for you from the wedding day of around 10 minutes.

How do we pay?

You receive an invoice by email.

How far do you travel for weddings?

I'm happy to travel for wedding photography both nationally and internationally. Any travel costs depend on the distance and will be agreed in advance. I've photographed in Bergen, Oslo, Bodø, Ålesund, Spain, Inderøya, Grong, Sunndalsøra and Stavanger, to name a few places. I love to travel!

What if we're not comfortable in front of the camera?

Don't worry! It's completely normal to feel a little unsure in front of the camera. My job is to create a relaxed atmosphere, so you can be yourselves. I guide you through the session and focus on natural moments, so you don't have to feel that everything must be perfect.

Do you have experience with different lighting conditions, such as evening or indoors?

Absolutely! I have experience photographing in many different lighting conditions, both indoors, outdoors, in bright sunlight, shade and in the evening. I bring the equipment needed to ensure beautiful pictures whatever the situation.

Can we add more hours on the wedding day itself?

Yes, it's possible to add more hours along the way if you see the need for it. I adapt to your day, and we can agree on this either before or during the wedding.

Can we get the raw files (unedited images)?

I deliver only fully edited images that represent the quality I want to stand behind. The raw files are an unfinished product, and I want you to get the best end result.

Do you take pictures throughout the whole wedding day, or do you take breaks?

I'm present for the whole agreed time and work continuously to capture the big moments as well as the small details. I take short breaks when it fits naturally, such as eating a meal during dinner, but I always make sure not to miss anything important.

How do you look after the photos?

When I photograph, I always have TWO memory cards in my cameras, so the images are saved twice. When the wedding is over, I keep the memory cards in two different places, so that if anything should happen, I always have the images safe. The images are stored on two different external hard drives, which I keep separate. I also store all the images in a cloud. The images are edited and again stored in three different places, plus your gallery, which you have access to for three years. For me, security means EVERYTHING! I can't bear to think of the nightmare it must be for any photos to be lost, so I make sure it never happens!

Do we get a free slideshow?! And what is that...

Everyone who uses me as their wedding photographer gets what's called a slideshow of the images. That means I put together a "film" with around 200 of the very best images, set to music. It's an incredibly lovely and moving way to show the wedding pictures to friends and family. Get in touch if you'd like to see an example of such a slideshow! :-)

How do we receive the photos?

Weddings: Fully edited images (edited in Lightroom) are delivered to you in an online gallery, which arrives by email. At the same time you get a slideshow, a picture show with music, also sent by email. Other types of photography: The best images from the session are delivered by email in an online viewing gallery. You can also order albums and physical prints in my web shop, Svalefoto.

What if we're not happy?

The most important thing for me is that you, as the customer, are happy. If you don't like the images, we'll find a new date for the session and take completely new pictures. That's why it's important that, before you choose me as your photographer, you get to know my work and look closely at my images here on the website, so you know that you like my photographic style and that this is the kind of pictures you want.

Do you do other types of photography besides weddings and family?

Yes, I do all sorts of things! Business photography, for example. Feel free to send me an email and tell me what you'd like, and I'll see whether it's something I can do. I love a challenge!
